More specifically, it is ideal for job seekers, those  who may become unemployed at some point in  the future, and those who are considering career  change. Career coaching gives you a plan for the short,  and the long term. What should you look for when considering Career Coaching? Many coaches, and other individuals offer career coaching. However, most of them do not have relevant qualifications in the field, nor do they utilise the psychometric assessment tools critical to the process. Look For An Accredited Career Coaching Qualification There is only one accredited qualification under the National Framework, namely the Diploma in Career Coaching, accredited by the Dublin Institute of Technology. Use of Scientifically Validated Assessment Tools There are several poor quality assessment tools available online. CDMTM (Career Decision Maker) is a cutting edge, high quality tool specifically designed for Career Coaches, and operated under license. There are other good quality tools (e.g. 16PF). A tool that does not require a license on the part of the Career Coach is unlikely to meet a reasonable standard.   What is involved in Career Coaching?  Central to Career Coaching is the development of  a Career and learning Plan, with the help of the  cutting edge scientifically validated psychometric  assessment CDMTM (Career Decision Maker).   CDMTM identifies your Values, Interests,  Personality, and Skills in a comprehensive  assessment report. Your coach then guides you to a deeper  understanding of your report, and the relevance  of the information  to any future  career choices. Career options are explored along  with any further education or training you may  need to achieve your career ambitions. The Career Plan is carefully structured, and  leaves no stone unturned regarding your career. Your Career Coach has access to a large body of  expertise and knowledge, and will help pinpoint  potential employers, and/or educational and  training facilities/courses relevant to your aims.  What is the difference between Career  Coaching and Career Guidance or Career  Counselling?  Career guidance and counselling are fine  disciplines in their own right, but are really quite  different from Career Coaching.   Career coaching offers much more than direction.  It offers very real tools, a structured plan of  action, and an approach that takes you each step of the way. Career coaching is hands on, and very practical. It could be likened to attending a gym with your  own personal trainer, compared to reading a  fitness book, and discussing with a nutritionist  how you can best get fit.
